OUR FIRST ATTEMPTS TO BRING THE POWER OF THE EU TO BEAR WERE IN WRITING TO MEP BARONESS EMMA NICHOLSON,  A MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT'S HUMAN RIGHTS SUB COMMITTEE. SHE SUBSEQUENTLY ARRANGED A MEETING IN BRUSSELS ON 12TH NOVEMBER 2008.


SHE AND OTHER INVITED MEPS LISTENED TO A PRESENTATION BY PAUL POLANSKY AND ARGUMENTS FROM OTHER ADVOCATES, DURING WHICH SHE WAS REMINDED OF A PROMISE GIVEN BY UNMIK, THAT THE FAMILIES WOULD BE MOVED IN 45 DAYS.THE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE TO THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UN AT THE TIME WAS BERNARD KOUCHNER.  MR POLANSKY'S PRESENTATION IS BELOW.


AS A RESULT OF THAT MEETING, BARONESS NICHOLSON RAISED QUESTIONS IN THE COUNCIL AND THE COMMISSION, SUBMITTED AN AMMENDMENT TO THE FORTHCOMING EU RESOLUTION ON KOSOVO, AND WROTE LETTERS TO BERNARD KOUCHNER. HE DULY REPLIED.


ON JANURY 2009, THE EU PASSED THE RESOLUTION INCLUDING THE NICHOLSON AMMENDMENT (CLAUSE 26). ALL THESE DOCUMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD.
