SAVE THE LEAD-POISONED CHILDREN Press Release - 31st July 2010 On the evening of 30th July, yet another young child from Kosovo was rushed to hospital in a coma while suffering from the effects of acute lead-poisoning. Ergin Salihi had been taken to hospitals in Mitrovica, Belgrade and Pristina on eight seperate occasions in the last twelve months, while international agencies working on long-term resettlement plans insist that evacuation of displaced families housed by the UN on highly toxic land on what was Europe's largest lead mine, is not necessary. This morning, his mother pleaded to get their family out of Camp Osterode. She said every time Ergin came back from the hospital he was super, but then after a while he got sick again. She didn't think he would live if he came back to the camp this time. NEW FILM CHANNEL To bring to the World's attention the ongoing plight of the Roma and Ashkali children at the camps for displaced families in Mitrovica, Kosovo, a new internet-based film channel "SAVE THE LEAD-POISONED CHILDREN" has just been launched on Youtube. The channel brings together a number of films detailing both the history and the ongoing situation for the families. Viewers are urged to sign and distribute a petition calling upon President Obama to take the families immediately to safety within Camp Bondsteel and there to provide them with proper medical treatment.
